Understanding HELIX skin resurfacing

Information to support an informed conversation with our clinical team.

← All patient treatment guides

HELIX is a laser platform that combines fractional CO₂ resurfacing and non-ablative 1570 nm energy. A clinician may discuss CoolPeel, Sultra, or FUSION as distinct treatment approaches. Suitability, depth and recovery expectations vary by individual.

What do the names mean?

CoolPeel

A superficial fractional CO₂ resurfacing approach designed to address some surface textural concerns. Redness and post-treatment care needs vary.

Sultra

A non-ablative approach that heats selected tissue without the same type of surface ablation as CO₂ resurfacing. Temporary changes in skin sensitivity may occur.

FUSION

A combined approach using ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. The individualized treatment plan and recovery can differ from single-mode treatments.

Before a consultation

Discuss your skin history, pigmentation changes, scarring or tendency to scar, sun exposure, prior skin treatments, and any current medications or skin products. Your clinician can explain whether treatment is appropriate.

Recovery and expectations

Depending on the setting and treatment, patients may experience redness, swelling, flaking, skin sensitivity, and a period of healing. Risks can include persistent pigment changes, infection, or scarring. Results and the number of sessions vary.

Questions to bring

  • Which treatment mode, if any, fits my concerns and skin history?
  • What recovery time and skincare adjustments should I plan for?
  • What side effects or complications should prompt a call to the office?
  • What results are realistic for my situation?
