Understanding a professional skincare routine

Information to support an informed conversation with our clinical team.

ZO Skin Health organizes skincare into a foundational routine called Getting Skin Ready: cleansing, appropriate exfoliation, and toning. Products and how often they are used should be selected for an individual's skin needs and tolerance.

The foundations

Cleanse

Remove sunscreen, surface oil and debris without unnecessarily irritating the skin.

Exfoliate

Some regimens include physical or chemical exfoliants; more is not always better, particularly for sensitive or recently treated skin.

Tone

ZO offers toning products selected to support different skin types, including sensitive or oily skin.

Product categories

Professional skincare can include moisturizers, barrier-support formulas, antioxidant serums, products for uneven-looking tone, and daily broad-spectrum sun protection. Your clinician can recommend products based on your skin concerns and medical history.

After an in-office treatment

Skin affected by laser resurfacing may need a simplified, gentle care routine while healing. Follow the treating clinician's written instructions, especially before resuming exfoliants, retinoids or other potentially irritating products.

Questions to bring

  • What is the simplest routine appropriate for my skin?
  • Which products should I pause before or after a treatment?
  • How do I recognize irritation or a reaction?
  • Which sun protection options are best suited to me?
